Autocross is a dynamic way to become a better driver. A safe and controlled course of orange safety cones is created in a parking lot where drivers take turns negotiating the course in their car. Times are recorded and drivers are encouraged to improve their times on each successive turn. Wear and tear on vehicles is minimal and experienced instructors are ready to help any driver.
These events are casual, non-classed, and focused on handling rather than speed. As such, novices are welcome and will find themselves in a safe, low-pressure environment, learning how to handle their cars in a challenging context. Autocross is the best first step at discovering the capabilities of your well designed and built Porsche, and developing your skills as a driver.
At Cimarron Region autocross events, we start with the course set up at 7:30 AM, followed by a driver’s meeting, and have the first car start around 8:15 AM. Drivers are divided into two groups with one group driving and the other working the course. When the turns are complete the course is cleaned up with everyone ready to go home, or out to brunch about 11:00 AM.
More details about our CRPCA Autocross events at Corporate Woods are listed at the bottom of this article.
The 2025 season:
1) A tech inspection course which covers the basics of making sure your Porsche is ready, safe, and reliable for track days and autocross events. A very successful event. We plan on scheduling more this year.
2) A car-handling clinic for novices, people curious about motorsports, and those who want to learn how to better handle their Porsches. Well done team! Drivers and instructors alike got great practice in during a windy March day.
3) Two just-for-fun events at Corporate Woods: Ladies’ Day and 4-Door Day.
4) Five Saturday events for those who are typically obligated on Sunday mornings: two PCA counting events, two joint counting events, and one novelty event.
And for those ready to step up to more competitive events-
5) Cimarron Region PCA has partnered with Northeast Oklahoma SCCA for the 2025 autocross season!
CRPCA joins the NeOkla SCCA for 7 events this year. Six are at the Davis Field Regional Airport in Muskogee and one event at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. Please visit their website (http://neoklascca.org/) and familiarize yourself with SCCA’s participation guidelines and classing requirements.
SCCA provides high-speed courses and highly-competitive events, attracting drivers from neighboring states and other PCA regions. These events typically consist of 8 runs total; 4 in SCCA classes and 4 in open indexed classes (also known as PAX). PCA members will have our own indexed class to run in: PAX-PCA. At the joint SCCA-PCA events, we will get broken up into classes based on SCCA’s rulebook for our morning runs, and then compete against each other in open, non-classed competition in the afternoon. Note that unlike PCA events, these tend to last until mid-afternoon.
Participation in SCCA events gain the following benefits:
1) 0.15mi x 0.15mi completely flat surface with no curbs or obstructions
2) High-grade airport tarmac material with track-like levels of grip
3) Very fast, national-level course designs
4) Ride-Alongs for those who sign waivers, including non-competitors
5) Plenty of room for trailers, staging, tire changes, etc.
6) Dedicated spectator viewing areas
7) Porta-potties (always) and concessions (sometimes)
8) A fantastic group of people who share our passion for motorsports
For CRPCA members who are already SCCA members, or wish to join SCCA, these events will cost $35 each for registration, with CRPCA getting a portion of the fees for each individual who identifies as a PCA member when signing up. Note that all PCA regions are welcome to attend, not just Cimarron Region! Let your friends know, as these events are worth the drive.
For PCA members who DO NOT wish to join SCCA, these events will cost $50 to register, which includes a $15 SCCA weekend membership.
CRPCA Autocross Guidelines for Events at Corporate Woods
1) 7:30 AM meeting time for course set-up. 8:00 AM mandatory driver’s meeting and course walk. Each car must be ready to go (see inspection checklist below) and participation waivers must be signed.
2) Event fees: $20 per session for counting events, online registration preferred but cash payment and paper registration available. Novelty events, car-handling clinics, practice sessions, and first-time participants are free of charge but drivers must complete a waiver.
3) PCA membership is required to compete in autocross. Guests can participate if accompanied by a PCA member, but their times will not count.
4) Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required.
5) Non-Porsche vehicles are allowed to participate, but will not be factored into the final standings.
6) All drivers must complete a work assignment. Accommodations for disabilities will be made.
7) All drivers must wear a Snell 2015+ rated helmet. Loaner helmets are available.
8) The tech inspection form must be completed and signed prior to running the car in our events. This form must only be submitted once per season.
9) Any car running <=140 treadwear rated tires will incur a 2-second penalty per each run. This is to take into account tires with extra softness and their resultant increase in traction.
“Autocross gets you up early on the weekends, not out of obligation, but because you look forward to it. Autocross makes you want to get out and meet new people – passionate people who not only like to drive, but want to help others and celebrate everyone’s success as they build their skills. Autocross makes you think dynamically because the course is different every single time, and you have no way to prepare. Autocross makes you think holistically about the car-driver system and makes you want to understand the inner-workings of your vehicle and your relationship with it. Autocross clears your mind and frees your heart in a way that cannot be described, only experienced. This feeling becomes addictive and keeps us coming back for more, helping us build confidence and competence, as well as forming positive momentum that has carryover in every other aspect of life.” - Well said Matt.
