PCA Autocross Safety inspection

PCA Autocross Safety Inspection

May 2020

It is the sole responsibility of each participant to present a vehicle that is safe to operate in an autocross event and is in sound mechanical condition. Safety inspection by PCA Region volunteers does not relieve the participant of their responsibility for the safety of the vehicle they have entered.

  • Helmet meets current or two prior SA, M, or K Snell ratings. Helmets built to Snell Foundation Standards or other standards such as FIA 8860, SFI 31.1 and BS6658-85 Type A-FR are approved.
  • Helmet is in good physical shape. Liner is not loose inside. Straps are not frayed. No obvious outer shell damage. Drivers of cars with no windshields must have eye protection.
  • Gas Cap securely in place
  • Seatbelts must be in good condition and not overly worn, frayed, or stiff. 5 or 6-point racing harnesses must be installed per manufacturer’s instructions. If non-factory upper restraints are installed in open cars, factory roll over protection or aftermarket roll bar/cage must be installed.
  • Seats are properly attached and functional
  • Wheels must be free of cracks and all fasteners installed on all wheels
  • Tires must have no cord showing at any time and be free of cracks
  • Throttle operates properly
  • Brake pedal must not go to the floor without any resistance

      AUTO-CROSS 2022

        Autocross 2022 details

        More Info...

        New to AutoX?

This is a great opportunity to learn more about your cars handling in a controlled environment.  AutoX events are timed parking lot sized cone course events that are focused on handling and precision.  They are less intense than HDPE track events, but extremely fun.   Only one car is on the course at a time, eliminating any possibility of contact and each driver proceeds at their own pace and competes against their own times as well as those of other drivers.  Any PCA members are welcome to observe or participate in these events. Instruction is provided for newcomers and any new driver is allowed 3 extra practice laps before the session begins.

Welcome back to AutoX!  We are excited to get things kicked off for the 2022 season.  New and or helpful information for this year includes the following:

        • This year there will be a total of 1 practice session, 9 counting sessions, and 2 makeup sessions (for weather cancellations).

o   In order to qualify for rankings (and to qualify for the 2022 PCA

AutoX Gift) a driver needs to attend a minimum of 6 counting

                                        sessions this season.

        • PCA membership is required to participate in autocross.

        • Current / valid driver’s license is required to participate.

        •  Non-Porsche vehicles can be driven, but the times do not count toward overall standings.

        • Each session will continue to cost $10 cash for each car run.
          •  If it is your first time participating, the $10 fee will be waived.

        • If you drive, you are expected to assist with course work on the opposite run group as able.

        • An automotive helmet must be worn to participate.
          •  If you do not have a helmet and are not sure if you want to commit yet, we have several loaner helmets available.

        • Unlike HPDE (Track) events, you do not need a tech inspection to participate in PCA AutoX.

o    However, it is each driver’s responsibility to ensure that their vehicle is in

good working order, especially tires and suspension.

o   Please do not bring a vehicle that is actively leaking oil, as it could cause a

significant safety risk to other drivers.

o   Although not required, it is a good idea to ensure that your brake fluid is

less than 12 months old, and DOT4 fluid is generally recommended for

                                      longer courses.

        • Following Board discussion, the PCA tire treadwear rules will be applicable this year.

o   Any car running tire(s) with a treadwear equal to or less than 140 will incur

a 2 second penalty on each run made.

o   Tire inspections will not be performed.  Please use the honor system.

A non-exhaustive list of some popular tires is below.

        •  7:30AM set-up with drivers meeting / course walk-around at 8:00AM.  All drivers are required to participate in the walk around and attend the subsequent safety meeting in order to compete in the event
